A world class economy
begins
with a world class education
Iowa is known for its unparalleled education system. As Iowans, we take pride in our schools, knowing they are some of the best in the world. Iowa school systems often set the standard and have been used as a benchmark for schools around the nation. Created in Iowa, the Iowa Test of Basic Skills provides an in-depth assessment of students' achievement of important educational objectives and is used by many school districts across the nation.
Iowa ranks 1st in the nation in average composite scores for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), with an average score of 1,807 - well above the national average of 1,511. In fact, the top nine states in SAT scores are all Midwestern states.
Iowa is home to the Iowa Communications Network (ICN), a statewide fiber optic network that links all 99 counties to educational and training opportunities.
